Highlights

Aotea Roofing replaced our galvanised roof and pvc guttering with colorsteel. The job looks fantastic, in particular the flashings at the front of the house. Extremely professional finish, exceptionally pleased with how it looks. Craig was very easy to get hold of via email, and responded promptly to questions.

Not recommended, very poor job and absolutely no customer service. Took two weeks to finish a two day job after months of delays. Stopped answering my phone calls and emails.

Despite having my deposit for several months, it was necessary to contact the Roofing Association to get Aotea Roofing to commence the job. Consistent poor workmanship, 2 attempts by Aotea Roofing to carry out a successful re-roof of a garage. Not a company i would recommend. The foreman suggested a 3rd party inspection in an attempt to resolve the issues. A building inspector gave an extremely negative report (have available). After receiving a further report from New Zealand Steel,

Aotea roofing put on a new roof on our new house. After around 12 months we noticed some fastenings on the flashings had lifted and a couple fallen out. We rang and after a while someone came and replaced some and said there was still a problem with one of the fastenings and they would come back and complete the repair. Still waiting 1o months later. Emailed , txt and phoned ! Not happy with after service at all!

Took months from the acceptance of the quote until they did the work. When they did the work they left old nails and pieces of roofing iron on the lawn, which was not good when little kids were around. The job was unsatisfactory (the roof leaked), eventually got them to come back to repair their bad job and the roof still leaked after that. Got an independent roofer to check the work and he said it was substandard. Told them this but got no response, so making a complaint to the roofing

What to check before you hire

Worth checking yourself
Always confirm credentials and quotes with the business directly before hiring.
Never agree to roof work from a cold-caller at your door or an unsolicited 'we noticed your roof' note. That is the classic roofing scam.
Get a written quote that itemises access (scaffolding or a tower), the exact materials, and the workmanship guarantee, not a vague day rate.
Be wary of demands for a large cash deposit; agree staged payments against work you can actually see completed.
