- A grid-connected solar system is prescribed electrical work: the wiring and connection must be done by an EWRB-registered electrician who gives you a Certificate of Compliance and an Electrical Safety Certificate.
- Your lines company (electricity distributor) must approve the grid connection, and roof penetrations must keep the roof weathertight: confirm the installer arranges both.
- Check public liability insurance and GST registration (required above $60,000 turnover); a written contract is required by law for work over $30,000.
- Get a written scope covering panels, inverter, mounting, warranties and realistic expected output.
Warning signs of a cowboy
- Does the electrical connection without an EWRB-registered electrician, or won't provide a Certificate of Compliance.
